Exclusive Services

At Georgia Pulmonary Institute, we provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for conditions affecting the lungs, breathing, and sleep. Our team cares for patients with both common respiratory symptoms and complex pulmonary diseases. We combine clinical expertise, pulmonary testing, advanced diagnostic procedures, and personalized treatment plans to help patients breathe more comfortably and maintain an active lifestyle.

Asthma Care

Asthma can cause coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. We evaluate possible asthma triggers, measure lung function, and develop individualized treatment plans. Care may include inhaled medications, trigger avoidance, biologic therapy evaluation, and ongoing monitoring to improve symptom control and reduce flare-ups.

2

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Chronic bronchitis or emphysema)

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, commonly called COPD, includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. We help patients manage breathing symptoms, prevent exacerbations, and preserve lung function. Treatment may include inhalers, oxygen evaluation, pulmonary rehabilitation referrals, smoking cessation support, and advanced therapies when appropriate.

3

Shortness of Breath Evaluation

Shortness of breath may result from lung disease, heart disease, anemia, deconditioning, medication effects, or several conditions occurring together. Our evaluation may include pulmonary function testing, chest imaging review, oxygen testing, laboratory studies, and coordination with other specialists. The goal is to identify the cause of the breathing difficulty and create an effective treatment plan.

4

Chronic Cough

A cough lasting longer than eight weeks may be caused by asthma, sinus drainage, acid reflux, medication side effects, infection, or underlying lung disease. We perform a detailed evaluation to identify contributing factors. Treatment is directed toward the underlying cause rather than simply suppressing the cough.

5

Lung Nodules and Lung Masses

Lung nodules are often discovered unexpectedly on a chest X-ray or CT scan. Although many nodules are noncancerous, they should be evaluated based on their size, appearance, growth, and the patient’s individual risk factors. We provide CT surveillance, cancer-risk assessment, PET scan review, and advanced diagnostic procedures when needed.

6

Robotic Lung Cancer Evaluation

Early and accurate diagnosis is important when lung cancer is suspected. We coordinate imaging, pulmonary testing, bronchoscopy, tissue sampling, and referrals to thoracic surgery, oncology, and radiation oncology. Our goal is to help patients move efficiently from an abnormal imaging result to a clear diagnosis and treatment plan.

7

Pulmonary Infections

We diagnose and manage pneumonia, recurrent respiratory infections, atypical infections, fungal lung disease, and infections affecting patients with weakened immune systems. Evaluation may include chest imaging, sputum testing, blood work, or bronchoscopy. Treatment is selected according to the suspected organism, the patient’s medical history, and the severity of the illness.

8

Interstitial Lung Disease and Pulmonary Fibrosis

Interstitial lung diseases cause inflammation or scarring within the lungs and may lead to progressive shortness of breath. We evaluate patients using pulmonary function tests, high-resolution CT imaging, laboratory studies, oxygen testing, and clinical history. Treatment may include medications, oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, and coordination with rheumatology or specialized lung-disease centers.

9

Pulmonary Hypertension "High blood pressure in the lungs"

Pulmonary hypertension is elevated pressure within the blood vessels of the lungs. It may occur because of heart disease, chronic lung disease, blood clots, sleep apnea, autoimmune disease, or disorders affecting the pulmonary arteries. We provide diagnostic evaluation, disease classification, treatment planning, and coordination with cardiology and other specialists when appropriate.

10

Pleural Effusion "Fluid outside of your lungs"

A pleural effusion is an abnormal collection of fluid around the lung. It may be associated with infection, heart failure, inflammation, malignancy, or other medical conditions. We evaluate the cause of pleural fluid and may perform an ultrasound-guided thoracentesis for diagnosis or symptom relief.

11

Pulmonary Hypertension

Pulmonary hypertension is elevated pressure within the blood vessels of the lungs. It may occur because of heart disease, chronic lung disease, blood clots, sleep apnea, autoimmune disease, or disorders affecting the pulmonary arteries. We provide diagnostic evaluation, disease classification, treatment planning, and coordination with cardiology and other specialists when appropriate.

12

Blood Clots in the Lungs

Pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood clot travels to the lungs. We evaluate the severity of the condition, assess possible causes, and help determine the appropriate type and duration of anticoagulation therapy. Follow-up may also include evaluation for chronic blood-clot disease or pulmonary hypertension.

13

Bronchiectasis

Bronchiectasis causes abnormal widening and damage of the airways, which can lead to chronic cough, mucus production, and recurrent infections. Treatment may include airway-clearance techniques, inhaled medications, sputum cultures, antibiotics, and evaluation for underlying immune or genetic conditions.

14

Sarcoidosis

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory condition that can affect the lungs, lymph nodes, skin, eyes, heart, and other organs. We evaluate the extent of pulmonary involvement and monitor lung function over time. Treatment is individualized according to symptoms, organ involvement, and the risk of disease progression.

15

Sleep Apnea and Sleep Disorders

Sleep apnea can cause snoring, pauses in breathing, daytime fatigue, morning headaches, and difficulty concentrating. We provide sleep-disorder evaluation, sleep-study interpretation, PAP therapy management, and troubleshooting for CPAP or BiPAP equipment. Effective treatment can improve sleep quality and reduce the health risks associated with untreated sleep apnea.

16

Home Oxygen Evaluation

Some patients need supplemental oxygen during activity, sleep, or throughout the day. We perform oxygen qualification testing and help determine the most appropriate oxygen prescription. We also reassess oxygen needs as a patient’s condition changes.

17

Smoking Cessation

Stopping tobacco use is one of the most effective ways to protect lung health. We provide counseling, medication options, and practical strategies to help patients quit smoking. Support can be tailored to the patient’s previous quit attempts, nicotine dependence, and personal goals.
